Kulturbrauerei once belonged to Schultheiss Brewery before being abandoned in 1967. With 20 buildings dating back to the late 19th century, the brewery was declared a historic site in 1974 and remains one of Berlin’s best-preserved industrial landmarks.
In 1991, the site was transformed into Kulturbrauerei, a cultural hub that now houses nightclubs, theaters, restaurants, and a museum. The museum features a permanent exhibition, (“Everyday Life in East Germany”), which offers free admission.
From late November to December, Kulturbrauerei hosts one of Berlin’s famous Weihnachtsmärkte (Christmas markets). If you visit, be sure to try the traditional Glühwein (mulled wine) for a warm and festive experience!
