The highest point in Berlin, Teufelsberg (or "Devil’s Mountain") is not a natural formation but a man-made hill built from rubble and debris from World War II. Beneath it lies a buried Nazi-era military technical school. After the war, the site remained abandoned until 1961, when the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) established a Cold War espionage base at the summit.
Following the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War, the Americans abandoned the facility in 1991. Initially, Teufelsberg became an alternative tourist attraction, popular among adventurers, graffiti artists, and urban explorers. Today, it has become more mainstream, with guided tours operated by a commercial agency.
