At 102 years old, Taberna de Ángel Sierra is another one of Madrid’s oldest taverns. Fortunately, it doesn’t hide its age—its wooden furniture, stained glass windows featuring the crests of León and Castile, vintage tiles, and classic décor make it feel frozen in time. With its ceiling paintings reminiscent of a church, we’ve nicknamed it the “Sistine Chapel of Bars.”

The tavern’s gastronomy won’t disappoint either: it serves freshly made tapas, great beer, and barrel-poured vermouth, which they proudly claim is the best in Madrid. Prices are quite reasonable, especially for such a centrally located bar.
Taberna de Ángel Sierra is near Chueca station and opens every day at noon.
Fun fact: If you’re a big fan of Almodóvar, you might recognize this tavern from his 1995 film .
